The revised MCAT will be administered in the year 2015! This MCAT will be lengthened by 90 minutes and incorporate information from the social sciences such as sociology and psychology. Read more about this, here: http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/05/05/a-better-medical-school-admissions-test/?ref=health

1. Never shadowed a doctor before, but you want to and don't know where to start? There are "medical observorships" available at Seattle Children's Hospital on Sandpoint (past UVillage). This is a great opportunity, especially for freshmen and sophomores who want to get a head start on what being a doctor is like!
If you're interested, check out: http://www.seattlechildrens.org/healthcare-professionals/education/observership/ for more information. You may also contact Sarah Griffin who works at Seattle Children's and affiliated with these programs, at sara.griffin@seattlechildrens.org
2. Volunteer opportunities: What kind of service are you interested in? What do you expect to gain from that kind of service? Check out websites for the following hospitals:
a. Evergreen (Kirkland, WA)
b. Veteran's Hospital, "VA" (Seattle)
c. Harborview (Seattle)
d. UW Medical Center or Rooseveldt Clinic (Seattle)
e. *NOTE: the "Circles of Hope" program has unfortunately discontinued. Please consider the other volunteer opportunities listed.
f. Group Health (Capitol Hill, Seattle or the Eastside cities such as Bellevue, Redmond, etc.)
g. Overlake Hospital (similar locations as above)
3. Research opportunities: http://webapps.ued.washington.edu/opportunities/Opportunities.aspx
Hope this helps you out! Refer to Mayme's powerpoint (under "Links") for other details ![]()
